About The Net

Welcome to The Net, the mission blog from All Saints Parish Church.

The name comes from one of the simplest and most beautiful images in the Gospels. Jesus meets fishermen beside the Sea of Galilee and calls them to follow him. Their nets belong to ordinary life: work, family, livelihood and community. Yet Jesus takes those ordinary things and gives them a new purpose: “I will send you out to fish for people.”

We rather like that image. Because mission, we believe, isn’t limited to getting more people into church. It is about joining in with what God is already doing in the world: noticing where Christ is present, listening to our neighbours, loving our communities and discovering the surprising places where the Holy Spirit is already at work.

The Net is a place to think out loud about what it means to be Church in a changing world. It will explore faith, Scripture, theology, prayer, culture and community, but always with our feet firmly on the ground. We want to talk honestly about what is working, what isn’t, what we’re learning and what we’re still trying to work out. There will be serious theology, hopefully without too much theological jargon, alongside stories, questions, ideas and reflections from parish life.

Underlying it all is a simple conviction: the Church isn’t called simply to survive; it is called to participate in the mission of God. That means looking outward without losing our roots, being courageous without becoming noisy, being contemporary without abandoning the riches of our Christian inheritance, and learning again how to love.

Perhaps mission begins less with having all the answers and more with learning to notice: the person at the edge, the question nobody is asking, the community’s hopes and wounds, the places where people are searching for meaning, and the doors God might already be opening.

So The Net is an invitation to notice, wonder, question and join the conversation. Whether you are deeply committed to Christian faith, quietly curious, occasionally sceptical, or simply wondering what the Church is for these days, you are very welcome here.

After all, the net may already be in the water. We just need to learn where to cast it.
